Noticed something different at a repair cafe in Denver last Saturday

I stopped by a repair cafe at the Denver Public Library and counted maybe 15 people who actually brought in things to fix like toasters and lamps. Back when I was a kid, my dad would never toss a broken radio without trying to solder it first. Does anyone still bother tinkering with their own stuff before junking it?

I've fixed 3 lamps and a coffee grinder at those things.

Brought my old blender to one of those and the guy told me it was beyond fixing but then showed me how to take the motor apart for scrap. Ended up using the copper wire to make a jewelry thing for my niece. Now I bring ALL my broken stuff to them just to see what weird parts I can salvage. One lady gave me a broken toaster that I turned into a little planter for succulents. It's like a treasure hunt for craft supplies mixed with actual useful repairs.

I actually used to think repair cafes were pointless, but this story changed my mind.
