One conversation at the post office changed how I see my stamp collection

I was at the counter in Des Moines last Thursday mailing a package, and the clerk noticed my envelope had a vintage 3-cent Washington stamp on it. He said he used to collect as a kid but sold everything for $40 at a garage sale, and now he regrets it every time he sees someone still doing it. That hit different because I've been treating my album like a private thing, but hearing him talk about it made me realize the hobby is really about sharing the stories behind each stamp, not just the rows of paper. Has anyone else had a random stranger at a counter or shop make them look at their own analog pursuit in a new light?
