Question about going from power tools back to hand tools for dovetails

I used to think you needed a router and jig to cut good dovetails. Last month I spent 20 bucks on a decent dovetail saw and a couple of chisels after watching an old carpenter at a local woodworking meetup. He showed me how he cuts them by eye in under 10 minutes. Has anyone else switched back to hand cutting for joints like this?

I actually went back after a few months. Not saying it doesn't work for some people, but it wasn't for me. I gave it a fair shot and found the inconvenience wasn't worth what I got out of it. Different things work for different people, that's all.
