Showerthought: I gave up power tools for a year and my hand-cut dovetails still look rough
Two years ago I decided to build a small walnut side table using only hand tools, no table saw or router. I picked hand tools over power tools because I wanted to slow down and really learn the wood, but after 8 months in my garage in Portland my joints still have gaps you can see daylight through. My neighbor who's been a cabinetmaker for 30 years says he'd never go back to all hand tools for anything bigger than a jewelry box, and honestly I get it now. Has anyone else stuck with a slower method way longer than they should have just because they felt like quitting meant they failed?
