Spat my coffee out when the sourdough starter actually doubled in size on day 3

Had a friend who tried the whole sourdough thing last spring. She was so pumped when her starter finally did something on day 3 that she took a video and sent it to our group chat like it was a baby announcement. Then day 4 came and it was just flat again, totally dead. She swore it was cursed and gave up after a week. Honestly I think half the battle with sourdough is just not getting too attached to your starter lol.

Is it bad that I kinda relate to her? My first starter did the exact same thing, bubbled up on day 3 then went totally silent. Turned out I was just feeding it wrong, needed to wait for the real yeasts to show up. Took me almost two weeks of babying it before it finally got consistent. Now I just dump half of it every morning without thinking twice.
