TIL my dad's cheap chisels work great after 10 minutes on a $12 sharpening stone
I grabbed his old chisel set from the garage in Fresno last month and tried to cut a mortise in a piece of pine. The edge just slid and crushed the wood instead of slicing. I got a cheap combo stone and spent maybe 10 minutes working each bevel by hand. Now the chisel shaves a curl you can see through, and the same joint cut clean on the first try. Has anyone else had a dull tool that turned out to be a sharpening problem and not a bad tool?
