TIL my local library has a free tool rental program

I was convinced you had to buy everything for a project, but after borrowing a pipe clamp set for a bookcase build, I saved about 80 bucks. The librarian in Springfield said most people don't know they offer more than just books. Anyone have a good source for cheap hardwood in the area?

Hey, that's actually a pretty common sign at hardware stores! They usually mean you can borrow tools for free if you buy the supplies. It's not as shady as it sounds.

Wait, they just let you walk out with their tools? No deposit or anything? That seems like a great way to lose a whole bunch of drills. I guess they figure you'll come back for more nails or whatever, but still. My local place makes you leave your driver's license at the counter.
