Burn: I blew $75 on a cheap plastic bulk film loader and it scratched 3 rolls of Tri-X before I switched to a changing bag
So I changed my mind about cheap loaders after my local shop guy in Austin told me the felt traps grit and I ruined 3 rolls of Tri-X in one weekend, so has anyone else had better luck with a changing bag or am I just clumsy?
Oh man, the felt thing is real. I read a whole thing on a film forum where a guy took apart his old loader and the felt was packed with dust and tiny grit that you can't even see. That stuff just sits there and drags across your film every time you crank it, so it's not you being clumsy at all. A changing bag and a few cheap plastic reels will save you way more than $75 worth of Tri-X in the long run. Only catch is you gotta keep the bag clean and not let it get all sticky inside. Sounds like your shop guy in Austin gave you solid advice.
