Found an old roll of film in a thrift store camera and the difference in colors shocked me
Developed a roll of Kodak Gold 200 that was sitting in a Canon AE-1 since 1998 and the greens were way richer than what I get from fresh rolls today. Has anyone else noticed this shift in color chemistry or is it just the way that batch aged?

Had a buddy develop old film from his dad's camera, and the colors looked way better than anything new.

Nah, it's not just aging. Kodak literally changed the Gold formula around 2005 or so when they switched to the "Max" version. The old stuff had a different emulsion that really popped those greens and yellows. You're seeing the difference between the OG Kodak color science and the current batch they make for Walmart shelves. Same with Fuji - their Superia from the 90s was a completely different animal than what they sell now. That 1998 roll got to age in the camera but the real story is the chemistry shift.
