My first attempt at stand developing with Rodinal convinced me it's not just a gimmick

After three rolls of HP5 came out perfectly even with zero agitation streaks, I'm officially a convert - has anyone else had their doubts about a technique blown away by a single test roll?

Stand developing has a reputation but I don't think it's a gimmick at all. It's more about knowing when to use it and when not to. Your HP5 results sound great but that's a pretty forgiving film that looks good in almost any developer. Try it with something like Foma 400 or a high contrast scene and you might see different results. The evenness comes partly from the long still times but also from the fact that Rodinal is a sharp, acutance developer that works well with stand techniques. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're shooting and what you want out of the negatives.

First roll of stand developing looked like someone dropped the tank down a flight of stairs. Turns out I just forgot to close the tank properly. Glad yours worked out better than my clumsy attempt.
