Stop telling me to scan my negatives, the flatbed is fine

Found out my $90 Epson v600 actually resolves less detail than a $35 thrift store dedicated film scanner from 2004. Looked up the specs after a guy at the camera swap in Portland wouldn't shut up about it. Anyone else been burned by the big brand name on a scanner?

Flatbed is fine" is what I told myself for two years while my old Kodak scans looked like soup next to my buddy's $40 Coolscan. The v600 is a decent document scanner with a film mode bolted on. The moment I pulled a 35mm frame with actual grain structure off the thrift find, I felt like an idiot. Big name doesn't mean better optics, it means better marketing.
