That surprising fact about Kodak's Aerochrome film costs

I was digging through an old photography forum from 2013 and found a post where someone broke down the price of a single roll of Kodak Aerochrome. It was going for around $80 a roll back then, and people were buying it in bulk from military surplus stores. That shocked me because I assumed it was always a niche expensive thing, but apparently it was cheap when the military dumped it. Has anyone here ever gotten their hands on a roll of it before?

Honestly, that $80 a roll figure is wild because I remember people on forums saying the actual military cost was way lower before it hit the surplus market. But does anyone know if the quality was actually consistent batch to batch since it was surplus or did you risk getting a ruined roll? Ngl, I'd be terrified to drop that cash only to find out the film was stored in a hot warehouse for years.

Aerochrome's fine if unopened. Bought four rolls from a surplus guy in 2015, all worked perfect.

Did you actually shoot a roll or just buy it to hoard?
