Warning: a Kodak lab tech told me my fixer was dead at 6 rolls, and I wasted 3 weeks blaming my camera
So I shoot a Pentax K1000 and I was getting these weird milky streaks on every roll for about 3 weeks straight, like 8 or 9 rolls down the drain. I kept tearing the camera apart, checking the light seals, even sent the lens off to a guy in Portland to get it cleaned. Then a lab tech at the camera store on 5th looked at my negatives for two seconds and said "your fixer is exhausted, man" and pulled out a bottle of Hypam that was cloudy as milk. I had been reusing the same batch since January because some guy on YouTube said you could get 20 rolls out of a liter. Turns out the real number is more like 8 to 10 rolls before it starts going bad, and mine was way past that. Anyone else get burned by following some random fixer reuse rule, or is it just me?
Is it weird that I kinda want to know which YouTube guy gave that advice so I can go leave a comment? Pretty sure mine was some dude with a squeaky voice and a beaker, and now my darkroom smells like a swimming pool.
