A guy at a con in Portland corrected my sub vs dub take without being a jerk

Went to Kumoricon last fall and ended up in a late night panel about classic mecha. I said I skipped 0080 because the dub turned me off. A random dude next to me just said "the dub is rough, but the script is fine if you turn on subs." He wasn't rude about it, just straight talk. That pushed me to actually watch it and I'm glad I did. Has anyone else had a stranger at a con or forum change how you watch something, not by arguing but just by giving a simple fix?
