Appreciation post: how the animation quality in Attack on Titan shifted between seasons 1 and 2

I went back and watched season 1 of AoT and the action scenes feel so much rougher compared to the fluid stuff in season 2. Do you think it was just a bigger budget kicking in, or did the studio learn better techniques over that 4 year gap?

Nah, I actually think season 1 had better animation overall. The rough style gave the titans more weight and menace, while the smoother stuff in season 2 made everything feel too polished and less intense.

Honestly the rough animation made the titan transformation scenes hit way harder too.
