Bought a premium Crunchyroll subscription for $10 a month only to realize my region blocks half the new releases
Figured paying for ad-free was worth it until I tried watching the latest seasonal show everyone's hyped about and got that dreaded 'not available in your country' screen. Who else has been burned by region locking on streaming services? No point in paying extra when the content gets cut anyway.

@blair_webb I get the frustration but I actually see it a bit different. Crunchyroll is upfront about region restrictions if you check the terms, and the $10 tier still gives you ad free access to whatever is available in your country. The real issue is these licensing deals are a mess for everyone, not just people outside the US. Even in America, some shows get delayed by weeks because of broadcast rights. I paid for the same tier for two years and never had a problem because I only watched what was actually listed for my region.

I saw a thread on this the other day where someone said Crunchyroll actually has like 3 different region tiers and the $10 one is basically pointless if you're not in the US or Japan. They're really just collecting money from people who don't read the fine print.

Man, that's rough. I saw @tylerj22's point about the region tiers and it matches exactly what happened to my buddy Dave. He signed up for the same $10 plan thinking he'd get all the new stuff, but then he tried watching that big isekai everyone was talking about and got the 'not available' screen too. He spent a whole weekend going back and forth with their support, and they basically told him sorry, it's your region's licensing deal. Ended up just letting the subscription run out and now he pirates everything again because it's less of a headache. Honestly makes you wonder why they even bother selling that tier in smaller countries if the content is that gutted.
