Can we talk about how subs vs dubs is still a fight in 2024?

I've been watching anime for like 6 years now and I still think subs are better for most shows. Tried watching the English dub of Attack on Titan season 4 and Eren's voice just didn't hit the same emotional notes. The Japanese voice actors have way more experience with the characters, idk. But maybe it's just me because I started with subs and got used to reading fast. What do you guys watch when you're doing something else and can't read the screen?

Lean into what barbarah19 said about knowing the story already - I actually rewatch my favorite dubbed shows with subs just to see how the translation differs, and it's a fun way to multitask without losing anything. The familiar plot lets me glance up during big moments while still catching the details in between. Honestly, having it on in the background like that almost makes me appreciate both versions more since I notice stuff I missed the first time around.

and honestly I just stick with subs even when I'm doing laundry or dishes, I prop my phone up and glance at it every few seconds. once you get used to reading fast you kind of tune it into your peripheral vision anyway. maybe try a show you already know the story to first, that helped me when I wanted to multitask.
