Dropped 80 bucks on a mystery box from a con vendor and got a paper fan and two sticker sheets

So I hit the anime con in Columbus back in March and this vendor booth had these sealed "premium anime boxes" for 80 dollars a pop. The dude swore every box had a figure or a signed print inside, so I bit and opened it right there. Turned out to be a paper fan, two sticker sheets, and a keychain of a show I don't even watch. I know blind boxes are a gamble but this felt less like a gamble and more like paying 80 dollars to throw money in a trash can. Did anyone actually get something decent out of one of these vendor boxes, or do they all run this same scam?
