Dub vs sub, I actually switched sides after 15 years of sub-only
I always thought dub watchers were just lazy, but last month I put on the English track for Frieren while folding laundry and caught way more character nuance I'd missed reading subtitles. Now I'm going back through older shows I dismissed as 'bad dubs' to see if I was the problem all along, did anyone else have this flip?

Wait, did your friend go through the same thing, or is this just a me thing? My buddy Marcus swore by subs for like a decade, refused to touch dubs, called them "voice acting for people who can't read." Then he got a concussion from a moving mishap, not my crew, but anyway, he had to stare at a screen without moving his eyes much for a week. He threw on the dub for Steins;Gate out of pure laziness, and now he won't shut up about how the English VA for Okabe actually nailed the nervous energy better than the sub. He went back to rewatch Evangelion dubbed and apologized to every dub fan he'd ever argued with. He even started buying physical copies of shows specifically for the dub tracks, which is wild coming from him. So yeah, your flip makes total sense to me, sometimes you just need the right show at the right time to break a habit.
