I thought "filler episodes" were always skippable until my buddy in Sacramento made me watch the Bount arc straight through
For 4 years I always skipped anything that looked like filler, just pulled up a list online and jumped past whole chunks of shows. Last month my buddy in Sacramento said I was watching wrong and made me sit through the entire Bount arc in Bleach, no skipping. Around episode 5 I got it, the boring stuff was where the side characters actually got to breathe and I knew none of their names before that. Now I can't tell if filler is bad writing or just a different way to watch, and I'm not sure who's right. Do you skip filler or sit through all of it, and did anything ever change your mind one way or the other?
Watched Naruto as a teen with a printed filler list taped to my wall, felt SO smart skipping whole seasons. Then my roommate in Austin sat me through the Kakashi ANBU filler and I actually knew who Tenzo was when he showed up later, blew my mind. Now I just watch it all and honestly the "boring" parts hit different when you're not racing to the next fight.
