I used to skip filler arcs, then Konosuba season 2 changed my view

I always skipped filler episodes, thought they were just padding for the manga. Then last year I caught up on Konosuba season 2 and realized the 'filler' had some of the best character moments, like Kazuma's dumb trial and the witch's backstory. That made me go back and rewatch the dodgeball arc in 8th episode of season 1, which I originally skipped, and it was actually hilarious. Now I give every show a 3 episode filler chance before dropping it, but I still check wikis for pure recap episodes. Has anyone else been burned by skipping and then going back to a whole season over a single arc?

Read an interview with the writer where they said they purposefully put character growth into those 'filler' episodes because they knew some fans would skip them. That stuck with me. I went back and watched the whole first season of Re:Zero after skipping a side story episode, and it actually tied into the main plot in a way I never would have guessed. Now I treat every episode like it might matter, even the silly ones, unless a wiki says it's a total recap.
