I used to skip subbed anime until a friend made me watch Steins;Gate that way

Always thought dubs were easier to follow, but she insisted the Japanese voice acting added something. After three episodes, I realized the emotional timing was totally different and sharper. Anyone else find a show that changed how you watch?

Oh man, Cowboy Bebop did that for me - the dub is actually really good too but the Japanese voices hit way harder emotionally, it was like watching a completely different show.

And the music just hits different in Japanese too, Yoko Kanno's score feels way more natural with the original voices. It's like the dub was made for a different show entirely.

Is it really that serious though? I watched both and the story still hits the same beats either way, you know? @murphy.abby, the score is great regardless, but I don't think the language changes how hard the show lands.
