My friend told me to skip the first 24 episodes of One Piece, and I'm glad I didn't listen.
He said the Arlong Park arc was where it 'really got good' and that the East Blue saga was too slow. I watched from episode 1 anyway, and seeing Luffy's crew come together from scratch made the later payoffs hit way harder. Skipping Baratie and the emotional weight of Nami's story would have been a huge mistake. Has anyone else been given advice to skip huge chunks of a series?

Ugh, my cousin tried to get me to skip the first season of Parks and Rec!

Skipping the Buggy arc would have missed so much early world building. Those slow parts make you care when the crew finally gets together.
