So I marathoned Steins;Gate and realized I was skipping the OVAs like an idiot

Been watching anime for like 8 years but I always skipped the special episodes and OVAs. Thought they were just filler junk. Then last week I hit episode 23 of Steins;Gate and something felt off about the ending. My buddy asked if I watched episode 23β and I had no idea what he meant. Turns out there's a whole alternate episode that sets up Steins;Gate 0 and I'd been missing it this whole time. Has anyone else accidentally skipped a crucial OVA and ruined the story flow for themselves?

Yo I feel you so much on this. I skipped the OVA for Re:Zero once and then started Season 2 totally lost about the whole sanctuary arc setup. Went back and watched it and was like oh okay that was literally essential. With Steins;Gate specifically, that 23β episode is like a whole different branch that makes Steins;Gate 0 actually make sense. Without it you're just sitting there wondering why Okabe is acting like a completely different person. So yeah you're not alone, I think half the anime community has accidentally skipped their way into confusion at some point.

Yeah "the whole branch" thing is what got me. Missed 23β and just thought Okabe suddenly lost his mind.
