Swapped subs over dubs for Attack on Titan and feel like I wasted 30 episodes

Finally watched the sub after my buddy kept pushing it, and the screaming matches actually hit different in Japanese, anyone else have a show where switching audio changed everything?

and honestly it makes such a huge difference with shows that have a lot of emotional weight to them! I feel like subs let you hear the actual voice actors put their whole heart into it, especially with the screaming and crying scenes. For me it was Naruto, I watched the whole thing in english first and then switched to sub for Shippuden and it was like a totally different show with way more impact. You're not crazy for feeling like you wasted time, the japanese VA's just bring a different energy that you can't really get from dubs no matter how good they are.

Man that's exactly what happened to me with Attack on Titan. Watched the first season dubbed and thought it was fine, then caught a clip of the subbed version and it was night and day. @wendysanchez you're totally right about the emotional scenes, the Japanese actors just go harder on the raw stuff like screaming and crying. My advice if someone is thinking about switching is to just pick one show you've already seen and try one episode subbed. It's way easier to get used to reading when you already know the story. I ended up rewatching half of AOT just to hear it the right way. Plus once you get used to subs you can watch stuff the day it drops instead of waiting months for a dub.
