That secondhand anime figure I bought was a bootleg - here's how I found out

I snagged a Killua figure off eBay for $35 last spring thinking I got a steal. The box looked perfect but when I opened it the paint lines were all fuzzy and the stand had zero grip. I compared it to my friend's real one and the hair sculpt was totally different - mine had soft details instead of sharp edges. How do you guys spot fakes before you buy these days?

Start by asking the seller for more photos of the thing out of the box. If they get weird about it that's a huge red flag. @craig.mila is totally right about the pegs too, cheap plastic always gives them away. The box can be spot on but the inside is where they cut corners. I'd rather pay a little more from a trusted seller than gamble on eBay again.
