This guy at a con in Atlanta totally changed how I talk about anime
I was in line for a panel about old mecha shows, and the guy behind me said, 'You know, I think we spend more time ranking shows than we do actually enjoying them.' He was right. We ended up talking for like twenty minutes about how just saying 'I liked this part' or 'that scene felt off' is way better than arguing over scores. It made the whole con feel more fun. Has anyone else had a chat that made them chill out about anime talk?

Got into a huge fight with a friend once over whether a show was a 7 or an 8 out of 10. I mean, it got so dumb we were just listing flaws like we were trying to win a debate. Ruined the whole vibe for a week. Now we just send each other clips and say if we thought something was cool or boring. It's way less stressful and feels more like we're just sharing stuff we like.

That whole scoring thing feels like it's everywhere now. We rate our food delivery drivers, our doctors visits, even our customer service calls. Turning a fun chat about a show into a scored performance review just kills the joy. Maybe we all need a break from putting a number on everything. What's the last thing you enjoyed without trying to grade it?

I get what you mean about just sharing clips, but honestly those score debates with my friend are some of my favorite talks. Breaking down why something is a 7 and not an 8 forces us to really dig into what we value in a show. It's not about winning, it's about understanding the craft better. I'd miss that if we just said things were cool or boring.
