Found out the average lifespan of a modern fridge compressor is way shorter than I thought

I was reading a trade magazine article from last month, and it said the average compressor on a fridge made after 2015 only lasts about 7 years. I found a 2018 model with a dead compressor yesterday and that stat lined up perfectly. It feels like they just don't build them like the old ones anymore. What's the shortest lifespan you've seen on a newer unit's major part?

Yeah, that "built to break" thing is real, but I wonder if it's also because the new fancy features put way more strain on the compressor than the old simple boxes did.

Exactly! So is it the extra features or cheaper parts? My old fridge ran for 20 years with just a cold setting.

Everything's built to break now, my phone battery barely lasts a year.
