Had a week where every ice maker I touched was a total nightmare
Three calls in five days, all different brands, and every single one had a different issue - one had a frozen line, one had a bad module, and one just decided to dump ice everywhere. The one that dumped ice took me two hours to figure out because the service manual was wrong about the error codes. Any of you guys run into service manuals that just steer you wrong?

Flip that whole thing on its head and think about when the manual is right but you still get burned. Had a Frigidaire last month where the manual called out a bad control board, replaced it, still had the same problem. Turns out the manual was technically correct - the board WAS bad - but the real issue was a pinhole leak in the evap line that was freezing the board with condensation. So the manual led me to the symptom but completely missed the actual cause. Makes you wonder how many techs have swapped a part, thought "must have been a bad new part" and sent the customer on their way when the root problem was still hiding.

Absolutely, you hit it. I had a Whirlpool last year where the manual swore it was a bad thermostat, replaced it three times before I found a cracked wire harness that was messing with the readings.

... and the worst part is you waste all that time second-guessing yourself, thinking you missed something obvious when the manual's the one that's wrong.
