Had a Whirlpool fridge that kept freezing everything in the crisper drawer

I swore for years it had to be a bad temperature sensor or control board. After three service calls and $200 in parts, a buddy convinced me to just check the damper door alignment. Turns out a piece of packaging plastic was jamming it half open. Now I always look for the simple mechanical stuff first before diving into electronics. Anyone else find dumb fixes like that more often than they expect?

Remembered once I had a dryer that kept shutting off mid cycle, drove me nuts for weeks. Turned out there was a plastic grocery bag stuck in the exhaust vent outside the house, flapping around and tripping the thermal safety switch. Simple fix, just had to pull it out and the thing ran perfect after that. Those kind of dumb fixes happen way more often than you'd think once you start looking for them. I've got a buddy who's a retired mechanic, he always says check the obvious stuff first because the fancy parts are usually the last thing to break. Makes you wonder how many perfectly good appliances get tossed because nobody bothered to look for something jamming a flap or door.

Used to think the complicated stuff was always the problem, but I've been proven wrong way too many times since.

Read a study once. Said most appliance repairs are simple blockages or loose wires.
