Hit a $400 dryer repair on a dryer that was cheaper to replace
I was at a house in Phoenix last Wednesday and spent 3 hours replacing a main control board on a 5 year old dryer. The customer was watching me the whole time and asked if I could have just put that $400 towards a new machine. I told him no way, repaired units run better than new ones if you know what you're doing. Has anyone else had a customer second-guess a repair that was clearly the right call?

Tell him next time to just call you first before buying new. A 400 dollar repair beats 800 for a new dryer that might crap out in 2 years.

That's exactly how I've been feeling lately honestly. It's like everyone I know jumps straight to buying new everything - phones, appliances, even furniture - without even asking if fixing it is possible. I had a neighbor toss a perfectly good dishwasher last month just because the handle broke. A $30 part and 20 minutes of YouTube tutorials, but he said it wasn't worth the hassle. When did fixing things become such a lost skill?
