I finally walked out of a Best Buy because their repair prices were insane

Stopped by the Best Buy in Cherry Hill last week to grab a power cord for a customer's fridge. Decided to ask about their repair rates out of curiosity. Dude quoted me $180 just to look at a washing machine, not including parts or labor. Told him I do this for a living and that's double what I charge. He just shrugged and said it's the flat rate. Who actually pays that? Has anyone ever convinced a customer not to call those big box repair services?

A neighbor once paid $300 for an appliance estimate and still had to fix it herself.

$300 for an estimate? That's like paying a bank fee for the privilege of being broke.
