I just hit 1000 service calls without replacing a single control board on a certain brand of fridge, and I think the industry is too quick to swap them.

Man, that's a huge win. I've found a lot of those calls are just bad connections or a blown thermal fuse on the board itself, not the whole board going bad. A quick check with a meter on the right pins can save a ton of time and money for the customer. What's the most common fix you end up doing instead?

Right there with you. The default move to swap the whole board drives me nuts when half the time it's a five dollar part or a loose wire. Customers get stuck with a huge bill for what could be a ten minute fix. It just seems lazy to not do the basic checks first. Good on you for actually troubleshooting the real problem.

My buddy fixed his with a loose wire, like @kellys78 said.
