I thought those $30 diagnostic apps for phones were just a scam for appliance repair.

After my old multimeter died during a fridge call in Denver, I tried one out of desperation and it correctly flagged a failing inverter board in under 10 minutes, so has anyone else found a specific tool they were wrong about?

Man, that's such a familiar feeling. I totally wrote off those little thermal cameras you plug into your phone as a toy. Then I used one on a weird overheating outlet and it lit up like a Christmas tree, showing a hot spot I never would have found. Felt like a total idiot for judging it before even trying it. Sometimes the cheap tech actually comes through in a pinch.
