I used to think all fridges just needed a new start relay until I actually tested one with a multimeter
Kept swapping those $8 relays on dead fridges and half the time it didn't fix it. Took a multimeter to the compressor windings last week on a Whirlpool from 2019 and found an open run winding. Now I test first, replace second.

The 2019 Whirlpool compressors are notorious for that. I've seen three this year alone where the run winding tested open but the start winding still looked fine. What got me was how many times I'd thrown a $8 relay at a bad compressor and called it a win when it kicked on for a few days. Now I check the windings cold and hot before I even order the part. That meter pays for itself real quick.

Three compressors in one year? That's wild. I can't believe they'd let something that bad slip through quality control.

Honestly @taylorellis, is it really that common or just bad luck hitting you?
