Just realized half the techs I meet are still using the wrong meter setting for checking heating elements
They test for continuity on the ohms setting, but you need to check the actual resistance against the spec. Saw a guy replace a perfectly good dryer element because his meter beeped, but the resistance was 14 ohms when it should have been 11. What's the one basic check you think gets missed the most?

My old boss taught me that lesson the hard way after three wasted service calls.

Actually those wasted calls might have been worth it, @josepha32. Sometimes you have to rule out the easy stuff first, even if it feels dumb. A quick check can stop a bigger problem later, saving more time than those three visits cost. Maybe your boss was just being too careful, not wrong.
