PSA: My meter read 0.5 ohms on a dryer heating element and I almost ordered the wrong part
Last Tuesday I was at a customer's place in Boise fixing a Whirlpool dryer that would not heat, and my ohm reading came back around 0.5 instead of the open line I expected. I almost called the parts house right there and ordered a new element, but something felt off so I pulled the wires and checked again with a different meter. Turned out my leads were dirty and the real reading was open, so the element was fine and the actual fault was a blown thermal fuse down the line. Saved the customer about $60 in parts they did not need and me a return trip. How do you all double check your readings when a number looks wrong the first time?
