Put dielectric grease on a washer lid switch and it killed the thing in 2 weeks
I had a Kenmore 110 top loader with a flaky lid switch giving me grief on a Tuesday job in Rochester, and I figured a little dielectric grease on the contacts would keep moisture out for good. Two weeks later the customer called back, switch was totally dead and the grease had turned into this gummy mess that held water right against the terminals instead of keeping it out. So now I just dry the contacts and leave them alone, but I'm wondering if anyone here has a grease or spray they actually trust for wet spots like that.
That gummy mess happens because the grease traps dust and then water sits right on top of it. I just hit those contacts with plain contact cleaner and let them air dry, nothing else. If it's really getting soaked, a tiny smear of silicone paste works better than dielectric grease since it won't break down like that.
