Spent $180 on a laser thermometer for compressor checks and it paid for itself in a week
I was using a cheap temp gun from Harbor Freight for years, but it kept giving me wild readings on refrigerator evaporator coils. Finally broke down and bought a Fluke 62 Max for about 180 bucks. Did a call in Phoenix last Tuesday where the evap temp was reading 15 degrees off with my old tool, but the Fluke caught the real issue quick. Has anyone else had a single tool upgrade that saved you time or money right away?

Bought a laser level for hanging cabinets a few years ago and it was a game changer. I always used a bubble level before but the laser let me line up all three cabinets in my kitchen in about 20 minutes flat. Saved me from having to redo one that woulda been crooked for sure. Made my wife way happier too since she didn't have to stare at a tilted cabinet every morning.

Taylor.sean nailed it with that laser level story. I had a similar situation with a cheap temp gun that was 12 degrees off on a walk-in freezer coil last month. Swapped to a Fluke like you did and the first job I used it on saved me from replacing a perfectly good compressor that was actually working fine, just my old tool was lying to me. Makes you wonder how many parts got swapped out for nothing because of garbage gear.
