That $50 'universal' control board I bought off eBay was a total scam

I spent 3 hours rewiring this thing into a Whirlpool dryer and it didn't even power on. The seller listed it as compatible with 12 models but the pins didn't match any of them. Anyone else get burned by those cheap universal boards from online?

Oh man, those universal boards are such a gamble. Three hours of rewiring just to get nothing is brutal, I feel your pain. The eBay sellers always promise "fits many models" but its just a generic part with loose wires. Had a similar thing happen with a fridge controller, never again buying that cheap junk. Stick with OEM parts even if they cost more, way less headache in the long run.

derek_perez nailed it. OEM parts or bust.

Honestly, is it really that bad though? I've used those cheap universal boards on three different appliances now and only had one totally fail. The trick is not to trust the "fits 12 models" claim and instead just use it as a bare control board with your own wiring diagram. If you match the pinouts yourself from the original board's schematic, they work fine most of the time. I fixed an old Kenmore washer with one last year and it's still running. OEM parts are nice but not everyone wants to spend $150 on a five year old dryer.
