That stubborn dryer that took me 4 hours to fix
Had a call last week for a dryer that wasn't heating. Simple fix right? I thought it was the thermal fuse. Swapped it out in 20 minutes. Fired it up and still cold air. Then I checked the heating element. Looked fine no breaks. Spent another hour testing continuity and voltage. Nothing added up. Finally pulled the whole vent line off the back. Found a birds nest jammed in there deep. Four hours total for what should have been a 30 minute job. Has anyone else had a simple repair turn into a whole day because of something stupid like that?

Why assume fixing something yourself is always the best use of your time?

so my friend jenna decided she was gonna fix her own washing machine last weekend. watched like three youtube videos and felt like a genius. she spent four hours taking it apart, broke a clip, lost a screw somewhere in her carpet, and ended up with water all over the floor. had to call a repair guy monday morning anyway, cost her double because of the emergency fee plus the part she broke. sometimes paying someone 80 bucks to do it in 30 minutes is just smarter than a whole day of frustration and a wet laundry room.

That "cost her double because of the emergency fee" is exactly why I stopped trying to be a hero with home repairs. I tried fixing my own dryer last year, spent two hours and made it way worse. Now I just call someone off the bat and save myself the headache, especially when I factor in what my time is actually worth.
