That week I tried to fix a Kenmore dryer and learned my own limits

Last Tuesday I walked into a job in Maplewood thinking I'd swap a heating element in 20 minutes. Turned out the thermal fuse was blown AND the vent was completely clogged with lint from 6 years of neglect. Spent 2 hours just cleaning the ductwork and realized I need to ALWAYS check the whole system before quoting a price. Any other techs here ever get humbled by a simple job that turned into a whole afternoon?

Learned my limits" is putting it nicely... I learned mine when I dropped a screw into the abyss behind the drum.

Wait, SIX YEARS of lint?? That's honestly terrifying to think about, like a house fire just waiting to happen. Dropping a screw into the void is bad enough but that kind of buildup is a whole different level of danger. I bet that poor dryer was practically screaming for air!
