That YouTube repair guy said to always replace the whole control board - he was dead wrong
Spent $180 on a new control board for a Whirlpool washer when it was just a burned relay for $4.50 at the electronics shop downtown. Took me 20 minutes with a soldering iron to fix the old one. Any other techs out there feel like these influencers are pushing parts instead of actual troubleshooting?

That $180 board probably cost Whirlpool like 30 bucks to make. These repair influencers are just covering their own butts because they know most people can't solder. They'd rather sell you a $200 part than spend 20 minutes teaching you how to fix a $4 relay. It's the same reason car mechanics push whole assemblies instead of a $20 sensor. I've saved probably a thousand bucks over the years just learning basic soldering and multimeter work.

That $4 relay number is what got me. I remember looking at a control board on my dryer and finding a tiny cracked solder joint on a relay that cost maybe $3. Whole board was like $160 online. I spent 10 minutes with a soldering iron and it worked fine for another 3 years before I sold the house. Its wild how these companies build stuff knowing the cheap part will fail first. They bank on people being too scared to open stuff up. My neighbor threw out a perfectly good washer because the lid switch broke. $8 part on Amazon and 2 screws later its running in his basement right now.
