Update: I was checking thermostats on a 5 year old fridge for 3 hours before I saw the real problem

The owner mentioned the freezer was fine but the fridge side was warm. I was so focused on the usual suspects, I almost missed the tiny ice dam behind the crisper drawer. It was blocking the air channel completely. How often do you guys find the simple visual check saves you from a deep dive?

Spent a whole afternoon once convinced a compressor was shot on a unit. Tore half the back panel off before I noticed the customer had jammed a pizza box against the condenser coils in the back. The simple look-around is the step I'm best at skipping, which is why it bites me every single time. Felt like a real genius that day.

I mean, I get the visual check thing, but honestly I've had way more jobs where the real fix was buried. Sometimes you just gotta dive in first.

My first year in the field taught me that lesson the hard way.
