Went to a parts house in Nashville and walked out empty handed
I drove 45 minutes to this big supply shop everyone talks about on the south side of Nashville. Got there at 9 AM on a Tuesday and the place was a mess. They had three guys behind the counter but two of them were just shooting the breeze while a line of 10 of us waited. When I finally got up there to ask for a control board for a Whirlpool dryer from 2019 the kid says "we don't stock those" without even checking. No offer to order it or look up a cross reference. I ended up ordering the part online from my truck and it showed up two days later. Has anyone else noticed these big supply houses getting worse about customer service?

they just don't want to help" is exactly it. I had a guy at a plumbing supply in Murfreesboro last spring look me dead in the eye and say "we don't do special orders for walk-ins" when I asked about a specific kitchen faucet cartridge. I wasn't asking for anything crazy, it was a standard Moen part. He could have looked it up on his computer in 30 seconds. Instead I had to stand there and watch him pull out his phone and scroll Instagram while I turned around and left. Makes me wonder if these places are intentionally trying to get rid of the retail counter business and just focus on their contractor accounts.

Hold onto that receipt if you still have it. That kind of treatment is why Amazon and Home Depot are eating their lunch. They're running off the people who keep the lights on.

Without even checking" that part really got me too. I had almost the same thing happen at a big chain parts store up here in Clarksville last month. Needed a blower motor for a Trane unit and the guy behind the counter just said "we don't carry that brand" and turned away. Didn't look at the model number, didn't ask what I was doing or offer to call another location. I stood there for a second waiting for him to at least offer to order it, but nothing. I drove back home and had the motor ordered online in ten minutes, got it in three days and installed it myself. These places used to be the go-to for parts, but now it feels like the staff just doesn't want to help. Between the attitudes and the empty shelves, I don't know how they stay in business.
