Appreciation post: My first pottery shard find in the Arizona desert

I was on a dig near Tucson last month, and my trowel slipped and nicked what looked like a plain rock. Turned out to be a painted Hohokam bowl fragment, about 2 inches wide. I carefully marked the spot and called over the site lead to document it properly. Anyone else have a story about a find that almost got missed?

Nice, you almost turned ancient history into modern gravel. I bet that trowel slip was the best mistake you made all month. Ray's right, those little things are so easy to walk past, it's crazy. Makes you wonder how much cool stuff we've all just kicked aside thinking it was a normal rock. Good thing you had someone there to show it to, my finds usually just get me weird looks from my neighbors.
