Found a 12,000 year old spear point in a creek bed in central Texas and now I look at every rock twice
I was wading through a shallow creek outside Georgetown, Texas three weeks ago looking for arrowheads and kicking over gravel when I spotted a tan rock with a long fluted shape. I picked it up, turned it over, and the base had those distinctive Clovis-style flutes. I showed it to a guy at the Austin archaeology society meeting that night and he confirmed it was a Clovis point, probably 12,000 to 13,000 years old. Now I crouch down and flip over every slab of limestone I see in creek beds. Has anyone else found something in a spot they almost skipped that day?
