Heard a field tech say they use dental picks for cleaning pottery shards...

I was digging at a site outside of Flagstaff last summer and a veteran tech showed me how she uses those cheap angled dental picks from the drugstore. She said it gives way more control than the metal tools we had, especially around tiny painted lines on sherds from around 1100 AD. Has anyone else tried switching to those for fine cleaning?

Wouldn't a sharpened popsicle stick work just as good for the price?

Nah, popsicle sticks would snap way too easy.

Right, tried that once and the thing split right in half on the first carve.
