I finally saw a real Roman road on a trip to Bath last spring and it messed with my head
I was walking through the Roman Baths museum in Bath, England, and there was this preserved section of the original road they dug up right under the modern street. It was just a bunch of flat stones, but knowing people walked on it 2,000 years ago gave me chills. It changed how I look at old roads on maps now. Has anyone else stood on something that old and felt weird about it?

Oh, it really does change things. I used to think they were just lines on a map, but now I get why people get sentimental about ancient roads.

The Roman Baths got me too when I visited... but standing on the actual road they walked on? That's next level. I remember touching one of the stones and just staring at it for way too long, feeling like I was connecting across time. It's wild how a pile of rocks can mess with your head like that.

Yeah, @uma_ellis that "connecting across time" line hit me hard because I did the exact same thing. I stood there staring at those flat stones like I was waiting for them to do a magic trick or something. But really all I got was a cold feeling in my fingers and a sudden need to think about how many people's sandals wore those grooves in. It's funny how something so boring looking can suck all the air out of the room like that. Did you also feel kind of silly standing there gawking at a piece of ground?
