I saw a possible Roman road cut through a field near my job in Kent, but the landowner says it's just an old farm track.
The straight line of flints and gravel runs for about 200 meters and looks engineered, so do you think it's worth reporting to the local archaeology group or is it probably nothing?

Oh man, you should totally report it. I mean, what's the harm? I found something similar last year, a super straight line of stones in a field by my dad's place. Everyone said it was just an old boundary wall, but I sent a picture to the county archaeology people anyway. They got kinda excited, said it was part of a medieval field system they didn't know about. It's probably nothing, but you never know, right? That's how cool stuff gets found.

Yeah but "what's the harm" can add up to a lot of extra work for those county offices. They get a ton of these calls and most are just old farm stuff. I get being curious, but maybe check with some local history folks first?

Honestly though, what's the point? Tbh most of the time it's just a waste of everyone's time. People see a weird shape in a field and suddenly think they've found Atlantis. The experts are busy, you know? They've got real sites to deal with. I saw a line of old fence posts once and my mate was convinced it was ancient. Turns out it was from like the 1970s. Just let it be.
